Olamide

Authorities in Bauchi State have taken two individuals into custody following the deaths of two children in Alkaleri and Ganjuwa Local Government Areas.

Police in Bauchi State have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the deaths of two children in separate incidents occurring in late October 2026. The Bauchi State Police Command, through spokesperson Nafiu Habib, announced the developments on Monday, October 26, 2026, noting that both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.

Alleged Poisoning in Kwaimawa

The first incident involves the death of a young boy in Kwaimawa village, Alkaleri Local Government Area. According to the police statement, the child fell ill on October 16 after consuming a beverage allegedly provided by his stepmother, 23-year-old Fatima Ibrahim. The boy reportedly experienced severe vomiting and was initially treated at the Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe.

Despite medical efforts, the child succumbed to his condition on October 24, eight days after the incident. Police intervention was initiated following a report filed by the village head of Kwaimawa. Detectives subsequently arrested Ibrahim, who remains in police custody as investigations proceed.

Discovery in Badaromo Village

In a separate case located in Badaromo village, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, authorities are investigating the death of a five-year-old girl. The child was reported missing by her grandfather on the evening of October 23. Following a search by local residents, the girl’s body was discovered the following morning, October 24, in a water pit situated behind the village.

Police from the Soro Division secured the scene and subsequently arrested 19-year-old Sadiku Musa, a resident of the same area. The police statement characterized the event as a “heinous act,” though specific details regarding the nature of the suspect’s alleged involvement have not been disclosed at this stage of the investigation.

Official Response and Community Appeal

The Commissioner of Police for Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, addressed the incidents, describing the loss of the children as both heartbreaking and inhumane. The Commissioner stated that the suspects would face the full extent of the law if found culpable during the ongoing investigation.

Beyond the legal proceedings, the command has issued a broader appeal to the public. Commissioner Aliyu urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to prioritize the safety of children and exercise increased vigilance. The police have not yet provided further information regarding the specific motives or the timeline for when the suspects might appear in court.

As the State Criminal Investigation Department continues its work, the families of the deceased remain in mourning. The police have promised a thorough investigation into both matters to ensure justice is served.
