Following the retirement of Lionel Messi during the October international break,
the Argentine national football team has officially confirmed its stance on the
future of the iconic No. 10 jersey. According to reports from _Daily Post Nigeria_,
head coach Lionel Scaloni has decided that the number will remain vacant throughout
the team’s upcoming November international fixtures.

## A Symbolic Gesture of Respect

The decision to leave the No. 10 shirt unused is a deliberate choice by Scaloni
and his coaching staff. While international friendly match regulations do not mandate
that squad numbers must follow a sequential order from 1 to 11, the team has opted
to keep the jersey retired for the time being. This move serves as a symbolic gesture
of respect for the former captain’s legacy and his immense contributions to the
national squad.

## Upcoming Fixtures and Squad Management

Argentina is scheduled to face Uruguay during the current international window.
Despite the high-profile nature of the match, the coaching staff remains committed
to the policy of keeping the number out of circulation. The report from _Daily Post
Nigeria_ indicates that this arrangement will remain in effect until further notice,
suggesting that the team is not yet prepared to assign the legendary number to another
player.

## The Legacy of the No. 10

In international football, the No. 10 shirt has historically been associated with
the team’s primary playmaker or most influential attacking player. For Argentina,
the number carries additional weight due to its association with all-time greats,
including Diego Maradona and, most recently, Lionel Messi. Messi’s retirement marks
the end of a significant era for the Albiceleste, and the team’s decision to preserve
the number reflects the difficulty of filling the void left by his departure.

### What Happens Next?

As of now, there is no information available regarding whether this retirement of
the number is intended to be permanent or if it is a temporary measure to allow
the team to transition following Messi’s exit. The coaching staff has not provided
a timeline for when the number might be returned to the active squad rotation. For
the immediate future, fans and observers should expect the No. 10 to remain absent
from the pitch during Argentina’s upcoming appearances.

## Conclusion

The decision to keep Lionel Messi’s No. 10 shirt vacant underscores the profound
impact the player had on the Argentine national team. By choosing not to assign
the number during the November friendlies, Lionel Scaloni and his staff are prioritizing
the preservation of the jersey’s prestige. As the team moves forward into a post-
Messi era, the status of the No. 10 remains a point of interest for supporters worldwide,
though for now, it remains a symbol of a legendary career.
