Arewa Consultative Forum Moves to Stabilize Kano Chapter Amid Leadership Transition

Olamide

The Arewa Consultative Forum has installed a three-member interim leadership team in Kano following the resignation of its former chairman, aiming to resolve internal divisions.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has taken steps to address internal friction within its Kano State chapter by appointing a three-member interim leadership team. The move follows the resignation of the chapter’s former chairman, Dr. Goni Faruk Umar, and is intended to restore cohesion within the organization.

New Leadership Appointments

The interim team consists of Alhaji Isyaku Umar Tofa—widely known as Makaman Bichi—Ambassador Bala Mohammed Sani, and Hajiya Rabia Husaini Adamu. These appointments were formally announced by General Haliru Akilu (rtd) during a joint meeting held in Kano, which included members of the ACF Board of Trustees representing the state and the chapter’s executive committee.

According to General Akilu, the interim leaders are tasked with managing the chapter’s affairs for the remainder of the current executive committee’s tenure. Their primary mandate is to facilitate a transition that resolves ongoing disagreements and fosters a more collaborative environment among the membership.

Focus on Institutional Unity

The leadership change comes at a time when the chapter has faced internal challenges that have hampered its operations. General Akilu emphasized that the decision to appoint an interim body was driven by a need to rebuild trust and encourage cooperation. He urged members to move past previous disputes and refocus on the forum’s core objectives.

In his address to the members, Akilu outlined a set of guiding principles for the interim period, stating, “The spirit that should guide every one of us is the same: consultation before decision, integrity before convenience and service before self.” He further called for a culture of patience, humility, and constructive dialogue, suggesting that these values are essential for finding lasting solutions to the challenges currently facing the Kano chapter.

Moving Forward

While the specific nature of the internal disagreements was not detailed by the source, the intervention by the Board of Trustees indicates a significant effort to stabilize the chapter’s governance. The interim team is expected to work alongside the existing executive committee members to ensure continuity. As of now, no further details regarding the long-term restructuring of the chapter or a timeline for permanent leadership elections have been provided by the ACF.

The success of this interim leadership will likely depend on the willingness of the broader membership to embrace the call for unity and set aside the differences that led to the current leadership vacancy.
