## A Rocky Start for Apple’s First Foldable

Apple’s highly anticipated entry into the foldable smartphone market, the iPhone
Duo, has officially arrived. Despite a massive waitlist and significant hype, the
device is currently at the center of a growing controversy. Early adopters who managed
to get their hands on the unit have taken to social media to report significant
hardware issues, specifically regarding the integrity of the folding display.

Users have documented cracks appearing directly along the center fold of the device.
In several instances, these physical fractures are accompanied by technical malfunctions,
such as a bright line of stuck pixels stretching across one side of the inner screen.
These reports have sparked a wave of buyer’s remorse among some owners, casting
a shadow over the launch of Apple’s first-ever folding handset.

## Apple Responds to Quality Concerns

In an official statement regarding the situation, Apple maintained that the overall
reception to the iPhone Duo has been “incredibly positive.” Addressing the reports
of damaged screens, the company stated that the issue is limited to a “small number”
of units. Apple has advised any customers experiencing display problems to reach
out to AppleCare to facilitate a replacement.

## The Internet Turns to Satire

The reports of screen damage have provided ample fuel for internet humor. Social
media platforms are currently flooded with crack-themed memes and custom wallpapers
that mimic the appearance of a damaged screen. While some of these viral images
are genuine, others have been identified as AI-generated or digitally altered to
exaggerate the issue.

The mockery extends beyond the hardware itself. The crypto community, which initially
embraced the device as an ideal tool for traders, has also become a target of satire.
After the official Crypto.com account promoted the phone’s utility for market monitoring,
users began circulating memes playing on stereotypes regarding the lifestyle and
habits of crypto enthusiasts, often highlighting the irony of using a high-end,
potentially fragile device to track volatile portfolios.

## Design Features and “Doomscrolling”

Beyond the durability concerns, the iPhone Duo’s unique form factor has sparked
a broader cultural conversation about digital consumption. The device features a
7.6-inch inner display capable of running two applications simultaneously, alongside
a 5.4-inch outer screen for use when the phone is folded.

Critics and social media users have expressed concern that this multi-screen capability
may further shorten human attention spans. The device has become a symbol for “doomscrolling,”
with viral videos demonstrating how the dual-screen setup allows users to engage
in multiple forms of digital distraction at once. Additionally, the phone has been
used in various online jokes to mock “performative” social behaviors, cementing
the iPhone Duo’s status as a polarizing cultural artifact. With a price point of
$1,999, the device is being framed by some online commentators as a high-cost solution
for those looking to intensify their nightly scrolling habits.
