Akor Adams Strikes as Venezia Upsets Napoli to Claim First Serie A Victory

Venezia secured an unexpected 1-0 victory over Napoli in Italian Serie A action on Saturday, powered by a decisive second-half goal from Nigerian international forward Akor Adams, according to a report by Daily Post Nigeria.

The victory delivered Venezia their first three points of the league campaign, providing a much-needed lift after a punishing start to the competitive season.

How the Decisive Goal Unfolded

The match turned four minutes into the second half. Following a scoreless opening period, Venezia midfielder Simon Sohm initiated the sequence with a long distribution up the pitch directed toward Adams.

Demonstrating physical strength, Adams held off Napoli defender Amir Rrahmani to carve out space in the attacking third. The Nigerian attacker then struck a powerful effort that took a deflection off Rrahmani, steering the ball past Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret and into the net. The strike marked Adams’ second league goal of the campaign for Venezia.

Halting a Six-Match Losing Run

Beyond providing the solitary goal in a matchup against one of Italy’s traditional heavyweights, the result ended a bleak stretch of form for Venezia. The club entered the fixture burdened by a six-match losing streak in Serie A.

Venezia managed to preserve the narrow lead through the remainder of the second half to seal the clean sheet and the win. Complete match statistics, including possession percentages, disciplinary bookings, and post-match managerial comments, were not immediately detailed in the initial match dispatch.

Relegation Fight and League Standings

While the triumph represents a marquee upset and a vital confidence boost, Venezia still faces a steep challenge in their domestic campaign. According to Daily Post Nigeria, the club remains anchored to the bottom of the Serie A standings despite the victory, holding three points in total.

For Napoli, dropping points away from home against a struggling opponent marks a notable setback in their domestic ambitions. For Venezia, however, the individual brilliance and persistence of Adams provided a blueprint for how the side might fight their way out of the relegation zone as the season advances.
