Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Ahmed Musa has assumed office as the
head of the Police Zone 10 Headquarters in Sokoto, taking charge of regional operations
across northwestern Nigeria. According to a report by the Daily Post Nigeria, Musa
stepped into the role on Monday, October 12, 2026, becoming the 25th zonal police
chief to lead the command.

The announcement was detailed in an official briefing from the Zonal Police Public
Relations Officer, ASP Abdallah Faruk Ambursa. Musa succeeds former AIG Augustine
G. Grimah, who has retired from active service in the Nigeria Police Force.

## Jurisdiction and Strategic Background

Zone 10 is a critical administrative command responsible for coordinating policing
activities, crime prevention strategies, and internal security deployments across
three neighboring states: Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara. The area frequently demands
substantial operational resources and continuous monitoring due to regional security
challenges.

Before taking over the zonal command, Musa served at the Force Headquarters in Abuja
as the AIG in charge of Community Policing. That background reflects his stated
interest in bridging the gap between law enforcement personnel and civilian communities
to improve local safety outcomes.

## Priorities for Crime Prevention and Internal Discipline

Upon taking office, the new zonal chief outlined several priority areas for his
tenure, focusing heavily on suppressing violent crime and restoring public trust
in law enforcement agencies. According to the police command’s statement, Musa pledged
to intensify tactical operations across the three states while pushing for noticeable
improvements in police accountability.

Key directives issued to the ranks include:

 * **Promoting Professional Standards:** Officers and personnel under the zonal
command were directed to maintain strict discipline, ethical conduct, and dedication
   in their daily assignments.
 * **Strengthening Community Relations:** Musa committed to keeping an open-door
policy to encourage dialogue with the public and make it easier for citizens
   to register security concerns.
 * **Actionable Intelligence Gathering:** The command called on local residents
across Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara to support officers by providing credible,
timely tips to prevent and resolve criminal activities.

## Inter-Agency Collaboration

Recognizing the complex security environment across the northwestern region, Musa
highlighted that joint coordination would be a foundational element of his leadership
approach. The zonal chief committed to deepening cooperation with the Armed Forces
of Nigeria, complementary security bodies, and civic stakeholders.

The police statement emphasized that inter-agency synergy is considered vital for
stabilizing affected corridors, preventing cross-border criminal movements between
adjacent states, and sustaining long-term peace. As Musa begins his administration,
the command aims to turn these strategic objectives into concrete operational improvements
across the zone.
