The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has officially initiated
preparations for the funeral of its late national leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who
passed away at the age of 100. The decision was formalized during a National Executive
Committee meeting held at the late leader’s residence in Akure, Ondo State, according
to a report by _Channels Television_.

## A Collaborative Approach to Funeral Planning

Oba Olu Falae, the Chairman of the National Executive Committee, announced that
the newly formed committee is tasked with coordinating closely with the Fasoranti
family’s own burial committee and relevant government bodies. The objective, as
stated by the organization, is to ensure the late elder statesman receives a burial
befitting his stature and contributions to the Yoruba nation.

The committee is comprised of a broad coalition of prominent figures, including
traditional rulers, former senators, and civil society leaders. Notable members
include Oba Oladipo Olaitan, Bashorun Sehinde Arogbofa, Senator Femi Okurounmu,
Senator Kofo Akerele-Bucknor, Chief Supo Shonibare, and former Ondo State Governor
Dr. Segun Mimiko, among others. Oba Falae noted that the membership list remains
flexible and may be expanded to include representatives from various groups that
previously convened in Ogbo, Ogun State.

### Prioritizing Respect Over Succession

Amid the preparations, Afenifere leadership has issued a firm warning against public
speculation regarding who will succeed Pa Fasoranti. Oba Falae characterized such
discussions as both premature and inconsistent with Yoruba cultural values. The
organization emphasized that the current priority is to honor the deceased, stating
that a credible successor will be determined only after the funeral rites have been
concluded.

The leadership underscored that the focus must remain on unity among the various
stakeholders involved in the planning process, cautioning that political maneuvering
regarding the leadership vacuum could distract from the solemn task of paying tribute
to the late leader.

## Reflecting on a Legacy of Integrity

Speaking on behalf of the Fasoranti family, Olori Rachel Falae, the younger sister
of the late leader, provided a personal reflection on his character. She described
her brother as a disciplined and trustworthy individual whose integrity was a cornerstone
of his public life. She highlighted his dual commitment to public service, noting
his past roles as a local government chairman and a school principal as evidence
of his lifelong dedication to his community.

The family anticipates a collaborative funeral process involving the Akure community,
the church, and the broader Afenifere membership. As the organization moves forward
with these arrangements, the emphasis remains on maintaining the values and ideals
that defined Pa Fasoranti’s century of life.

### Conclusion

The establishment of this committee marks the beginning of a period of mourning
and reflection for Afenifere. By prioritizing a unified funeral process and deferring
discussions of succession, the organization seeks to preserve the dignity of its
late leader while navigating the transition period with the cultural sensitivity
expected of such a prominent socio-political body.
