NNPCl limits access to N66 discount to only motorists using its fuel app

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) says the N66 discount motorists hope to enjoy at all its retail outlets can only be via its mobile apps.
The petroleum company announced it via its X handle over the weekend.
Recall that last week, the Federal Government announced it will embark on a 30-day price discount on fuel prices as part of measures to cushion the effect of rising fuel costs on Nigerians, particularly commercial transport operators.
According to an announcement shared on its X handle, NNPCL states that enjoying the proposed discount is tied to the use of its app.
Motorists are expected to download the company’s app and make payment for the discounted rate via the app.
Nigerians have questioned the efficacy of this model of payment given that not all motorist have access to smartphones or know how to make payment via apps.
NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, said the N66-per-litre discount under the Independence Anniversary promotion was the same initiative as the 30-day petrol discount announced by the federal government on October 8, 2026.
Initially scheduled to run from October 1 to 7, he said the promotion will now be extended until October 31, 2026.
Odeh tol Leadership that the access to the discount was restricted to the NNPC Fuel App to “ensure effective control, prevent abuse, and ensure the benefit reaches intended customers”.
He added that the initiative was also intended to encourage wider adoption of the application and improve the customer experience.
