APC Internal Surveys Signal Reelection Victory for Tinubu, Party Chairman Asserts

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed strong confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s political prospects, pointing to internal party research that leadership claims shows a decisive lead over rivals. Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda asserted that internal surveys have provided the ruling party with actionable data across Nigeria’s states.

Internal Surveys and Electoral Projections

According to Yilwatda, the APC conducted comprehensive fact-finding exercises and independent polling ahead of the presidential race. When asked if the findings indicated a victory for President Tinubu, Yilwatda affirmed the party’s stance, arguing that opposition groups have struggled to build winning momentum. The party chairman noted that the ruling platform remains unthreatened by competing candidates, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Yilwatda characterized Tinubu’s record as superior to that of his challengers, arguing that the administration’s targeted policies give the incumbent an advantage at the ballot box.

Defense of Economic and Sectoral Reforms

Addressing national concerns over economic pressure, the APC chairman defended the administration’s fiscal agenda. He highlighted recent tax changes, stating that the reforms were designed to protect the most vulnerable citizens while expanding the tax net to bolster government revenues. However, specific performance metrics or detailed breakdowns of the tax receipts were not provided during the broadcast.

On energy infrastructure, Yilwatda praised measures enabling state governments to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently, describing the shift as a crucial decentralization effort. Acknowledging broader public discontent over elevated transportation and living expenses, he insisted that challenges such as rising fuel prices are temporary difficulties that citizens understand.

Anti-Corruption Stance and Campaign Preparations

The party chairman also pushed back against allegations that the ruling party shields its members from anti-graft agencies. Yilwatda maintained that several APC members continue to stand trial in court, asserting that the party refuses to compromise fundamental legal rights while allowing due process to take its course.

Internally, the party leadership is applying a three-part framework to resolve grievances originating from party primaries. Yilwatda confirmed that the APC is reviewing its presidential campaign council roster and plans to inaugurate the body in the near future. He also addressed outside political alliances, noting he does not oppose political backing from groups such as the Rainbow Coalition associated with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. Dismissing public opposition movements like the “Tinubu-Must-Go” campaign, Yilwatda labeled them as partisan efforts that do not represent the general electorate.
